Goal Two

Develop a Learning Inquiry, focusing on a small group of learners, using the Teaching as Inquiry Process, implement a new, research based strategy to improve their learning and assess and analyse the results.

Reason

Teaching strategies work differently for different students and in different contexts, so it is important that teachers inquire into the impact of their teaching on their students (Ministry of Education, 2007). I think that the best teachers reflect on their practice and make changes to achieve the best possible learning for their students and Inquiry is an important part of this process.

Steps to Achieve Goal

  • Observe class and get to know students to select focus students (discuss with AT)

  • Decide on inquiry topic (discuss with AT)

  • Initial Assessment of group of learners, to provide baseline data

  • Follow Focusing Inquiry/Teaching Inquiry/Learning Inquiry process

  • Reflect and refine project as required throughout the process

  • Assess the learning of the students

  • Assess and analyse the success of the project

Standard

Professional Learning

Learning Objective

5. Reflect on and evaluate effectiveness of own professional teaching practice making explicit links with contemporary theory and research.
